Metro Parks and Recreation summer and afterschool program for middle-schoolers is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where youth feel socially and emotionally safe, positive youth development principles prevail, and learning is fun and engaging. We create an out-of-school-time culture where youth can develop untapped potential, feel empowered to learn about themselves, and are given opportunities to engage in their community. Our activity offerings include: • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) • Service-Learning • Social & Emotional Learning • Nutrition, Health, & Wellness.

The NICE after-school program is designed to support English Language. Through homework assistance, academic instruction and tutoring, social emotional learning, youth leadership opportunities, and community building, the NICE after-school Program aims to provide wrap-around support for refugee and immigrant youth.

This NAZA-funded after school program is operated by the Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE), a refugee resettlement agency located in south Nashville. At NICE, leadership, staff, and volunteers have extensive experience working with people from diverse communities including refugees, asylees, and other immigrants to the United States. Since 2005, NICE has served over 30,000 people from 72 different countries with culturally-competent programs and case management, NICE's goal is to help refugees & immigrants reach self-sufficiency and thrive for generations to come.
