Alita Terry joined NAZA in October 2018 as our new NAZA Associate. Prior to joining NAZA, Alita worked as an elementary school educator at Purpose Prep Academy, a Tennessee Reward school in North Nashville. As an elementary educator, Alita’s passion for performing arts informed the way she taught across subjects, using improvisational storytelling, physical movement, and call and response to cultivate a love for literacy. 88% of her students were on or above grade level by the end of each academic year and she was responsible managing the reading comprehension and guided reading curriculum for the grade level team.
Prior to teaching Alita worked as an administrator in the Pediatric Department at Meharry Medical College. Additionally she has been an active member of the local performing arts community. Her involvement includes co-writing and co-producing Tamarind Jam’s “Let Her Tell It” at the Actors Bridge Ensemble (2014), performing with Women’s Work and Southern Word.
Alita is a graduate from Florida State University and holds a Masters of Public Administration from American University in Washington, D.C. She is a Teach for America Alum. She possesses a passion for qualitative educational experiences through performing arts. In her spare time Alita loves creative writing, dancing salsa, and experimenting in the kitchen.
