BIO

For most of his career, Dr. Ezra Howard has worked with language learners, first as a program coordinator through AmeriCorps with after-school programs catering to recent immigrants and then as an educator with K-12 public school districts. Before leaving the classroom to pursue his doctorates, he worked primarily in turnaround environments and specifically SCS’s Innovation Zone as an ESL teacher. In 2021, Dr. Howard completed dual PhDs with Masaryk University and University of Lisbon as part of the European Doctorate in Teacher Education (EDiTE), a project supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and the European Union’s Horizon 2020 project. His research focuses on the construction of professional development and construction of professional identity of English Language Teachers working abroad with a form of alternative certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. His research interests include English Language Teaching, professional development, professional identity, Career Life Cycles and Career Trajectories, alternative certification, and socio-cultural approaches to learning. When not engaged in research, Dr. Howard enjoys working on gardening, reading, or playing video games.
